1) Trees in Relation to Construction (BS 5837) surveys and reports

Any planning application that may affect trees is required to include a tree survey and report that considers the impact of the proposed development on the trees on and around the site. Reports for this purpose must be carried out in accordance with BS5837:2005 Trees in relation to construction – Recommendations.

Bosky Trees offers a complete service to assist development planning. Survey information can be used to produce tree constraints plans that identify high value trees for retention and the space that they occupy and so inform site layout designs. Once the design has been completed a detailed tree report to accompany a planning application is required that describes which trees will be retained, where protective fencing will be placed, and any new tree planting proposals. A full BS 5837 tree report such as this includes an arboricultural implications assessment, arboricultural method statements, and a tree protection plan.

2) Tree hazard and risk assessments

To ensure tree owners meet their duty of care under the Occupiers Liability Act (1957 & 84). The law requires an owner or occupier to identify foreseeable risks and take appropriate steps to manage them, in order to do this a suitably qualified tree surveyor should be employed to periodically survey their trees. Bosky Trees surveyors have a good understanding of risk management and, in addition, they are registered users of the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) methodology.

3) Mortgage reports

House buyers are often required to employ an arboriculturist to carry out a preliminary survey to identify the risk of tree-related subsidence of the property. Bosky Trees can offer a rapid and affordable service for potential house buyers.

“Bosky Trees delivered a comprehensive survey report within a very short timeframe prior to a property purchase. As a result it was possible to resolve a number of significant issues prior to the exchange of contracts. I am very satisfied with the level of service provided throughout the project.”
Mark Dickson

4) Tree-related subsidence investigations

Building subsidence is a serious and complex issue. Proper investigation of subsidence is crucial to ensure that appropriate remedial action is taken. If subsidence does occur and trees are implicated arboricultural advice is required in order for appropriate vegetation management to be prescribed.

5) Advice on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and trees in Conservation Areas

The Local Authority must be informed of all works proposed for trees protected by a TPO or situated in a Conservation Area. Bosky Trees can provide tree specifications suitable for presentation to the Local Authority. The principal consultant at Bosky Trees has years of experience in dealing with planning applications and TPOs as an Arboricultural Officer for Bristol City Council; giving a good basis for providing advice on such matters. Amenity assessments can also be provided.

7) Woodland management plans

Management plans can be drawn up to meet various management aims. Bosky Trees can survey woodlands and produce management plans to meet the aims of owners and grant providers.
